A 60-year-old grandfather has been accused of raping his neighbor's 7-year-old granddaughter by luring her with Gandari (Akh) in Kaunia village of Ashtadhar Union of Mymensingh Sadar. A huge human chain and protest march was held today Tuesday (March 24) at 3 pm to protest this demonic incident and to demand the speedy arrest and maximum punishment of the accused Hannan government.
More than 200 people from the surrounding unions including the victim's family, various local political and social organizations spontaneously participated in this program. The whole area became uproarious with banners holding slogans demanding justice for the child victim.
According to local and family sources, Hannan Sarkar (60), son of Ishahak Sarkar of Kaunia village, took a 7-year-old madrasa girl from the area to a corn field next to the house by tempting her to eat gandari. The child was accompanied by another child. Realizing the situation, the child somehow manages to run away, but the clueless Achia (pseudonym) gets trapped. There he was brutally tortured. Accused Hannan himself is the father of 2 sons and 1 daughter and is the grandfather of the child.
The angry crowd first gathered at Kaunia Railway Gate on Tuesday afternoon and formed a huge human chain. After that, a protest procession came out from there and after circling various roads, it ended at Ashtadhar market.
Mehdi Hasan Iqbal, a local resident who was present at the human chain, expressed his anger and said, "In our society today, children are not safe even with their own grandfather. The only punishment for Hannan's heinous crime is death. If the administration hesitates to arrest him due to the influence of Hannan's black money, then we will be forced to give a stricter program."
Rubel Hussain, who was present at the human chain, said, "Even after 12 days of the incident, the police could not arrest the Hannan government. Such a deterioration of the law and order situation really makes us worry about our security."
The victim's father said in a tearful voice,"Ever since the incident, a certain circle has been threatening me and my family to cover up the matter. I want justice for this brutal abuse of my daughter.
Earlier, the victim's father filed a case at Mymensingh Kotwali Model Police Station as the plaintiff. However, even after 12 days of the incident, as the accused has not been arrested, there is extreme anger among the local residents.At the end of the human chain, the speakers strongly demanded that the corrupt Hannan government be arrested and brought under the law
